RevelationWhy is it so important?Why is it so vital that we experience God’s presence in corporate worship? Because when we come into His presence we can receive a fresh revelation of Him. Why is it important to have a revelation of Jesus? Let’s look at a story in Luke 22;
Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!” (Luke 8:22-25) I always thought that when Jesus challenged the disciples’ faith here he was expecting them to have commanded the wind and the waves themselves rather than needing Him to do it. However, I do not believe that this was the case. Instead you can see in verse 25 that the disciples said “What manner of man is this!” in other words, “Who is this man!” You see the truth was they didn’t know who Jesus was, they had no revelation of Him. If they had known it was the Son of Almighty God sleeping in the boat and that He had all authority over every situation, and He had said “We are going over to the other side,” they may well have been in faith and not doubted that they were safe because they were with Him. If we have people coming into our worship service who are facing sickness, poverty, oppression, fear, and doubt, they need a revelation of Jesus in their situation if they are going to be overcomers. When their circumstances are overwhelming them, you cannot change the circumstances for them, but you can lead them to a place where they see Jesus and encounter Him, and once they are there and receive a revelation of who He is, their circumstances will suddenly look a whole lot different!
